Wallace M. “Wally” Robb, 87, passed away Tuesday, October 13, 2026, at his home west of Osage City surrounded by those dearest to him.
He was born on December 22, 1938, in Howard County, Missouri, the son of James D. and Lillian Cleek Robb. Wally attended Perry High School and graduated with the Class of 1956.
Following high school, he went to work for Hamm Construction until enlisting in the United States Army. Wally served in the 2nd Brigade, 24th Infantry Division. He often reminisced about his time in Germany as a jeep driver and looked forward to his unit reunions.
Wally earned his honorable discharge after proudly serving his country and took a job at Dupont in the Oakland area of North Topeka. He began a 30-year career in construction after joining Ironworkers Local #10. Wally retired from construction in 1999.
Wally was joined in marriage to Ida F. Stramel on June 24, 1967, in the Oakland United Methodist Church. They began their lives together in Oakland, later moving to Lecompton. While living in Lecompton Wally began raising racehorses. In 1977 the family moved to their current home on Highway 56. What may have started as a hobby grew into a family endeavor. Raising racehorses involved the entire family and found them in the winner’s circle more than a few times.
Wally was an outdoorsman at heart. He loved going catfishing and hunting pheasants and quail. Being outside brought him great joy and forged many a lifelong friendship over the years.
Wally’s legacy will live on and remain cherished by his wife Ida of their home; his daughters, JoAnn Robb (Jay) of Silverlake, Kansas and Amy Robb of Springfield, Missouri; a son, David Robb of Osage City, Kansas; grandchildren, Robbie Kenney, Bette Lou Breason, Courtney Dain, Brandon Robb and Mathew Robb; nine great-grandchildren; sisters, Nancy Roberts of Winfield, Kansas and Mary Tuckel of Lawrence, Kansas; brothers, Vernon (Dee) Robb of Perry, Kansas, Dale (Barbara) Robb of Lawrence, Kansas and Bob (Sharon) Robb of Newton, Kansas; numerous extended family and a community of friends. Wally was preceded in death by a stepson, Terry Breason; two sisters, Evelyn May and Betty May as well as three brothers, Harold Robb, James Robb and Walter Robb.
Memorial services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Monday, October 26, 2026, at the VanArsdale Funeral Chapel, 107 N. 6th Street, Osage City, Kansas 66523. Inurnment will follow at Rapp Cemetery.
