Ted Lynn Martin

Ted Lynn Martin, 65, of Emporia, passed away Tuesday, March 3, 2026, at the Greenwood County Hospital in Eureka.

He was born March 7, 1960, in Emporia, Kansas as the son of Donald and Pauline Martin. Ted attended Emporia High School where he graduated with the Class of 1978. Ted furthered his education at Flint Hills Vocational College in Emporia.

Ted was no stranger to hardship. When he was only 10 years old, Ted’s father passed away. He was a hardworking, fun-loving man who was a devoted fan of the Pittsburg Steelers. Ted loved to tell jokes, sing and do all kinds of interesting things with his voice. He could mimic a siren so well that he could make traffic stop. He also enjoyed mimicking the peacocks at the zoo and getting them to call back.

Ted began his working career at I.B.P. before taking a long-term position at Dolly Madison. A job he held for over 20 years before transitioning to a maintenance position at the Flint Hills Vocational College in 2017. Ted was very proud of his sobriety. He quit drinking in 2010 and was an amazing Papa to his grandchildren.

Ted suffered two strokes in 2018 and would move to Holiday Resort in 2019. He remained there until it closed at which time he moved to the Nursing Home in Eureka.

Ted will live on in the hearts and memories of his daughter, Kaitlyn Herring of Emporia; sons, Brad Self and his wife Mindy of Fredonia and John Martin of Cottonwood Falls; 6 grandchildren Jaelynn, Cameron, Leah, Carson, Morgan, and Arianna; two brothers; numerous extended family and a community of friends.

Cremation is planned and a celebration of life will be scheduled at a later time.
