Shirley L. Homewood

November 28, 1932 — March 16, 2021

Shirley Kirk Homewood, passed away March 16, 2021 at Algersgate Village in Topeka.

She was born in Newton, Kansas the daughter of Frank and Lorene Kirk of Valley Center, Kansas.

She graduated from Emporia High School in 1950 and from the College of Emporia in 1954. She later received a Master of Librarianship from Emporia State University.

Shirley was joined in marriage to Richard Homewood on December 28, 1952. He preceded her in death on April 4, 1988. They were both teachers in the Osage City School System for many years. After her retirement, she spent twelve years working at the Resource Center for Independent Living in Osage City.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a grandson, Matt Lowry. Shirley will live on in the hearts and memories of her children, Mary Lee Homewood and John Homewood; sisters, Jeannine Kirk of Topeka and Mary Lou Sharkey (Pat) of Overland Park; a grandson, Josh Lowry, several nieces and nephews as well as a host of dear friends.
