Robert ‘Bob’ W. Gilmore

Burlington, Kansas. Robert ‘Bob’ Gilmore passed away at the age of 90 years old, on April 17th, 2026, at home while in Hospice care, with his family by his side.

Born September 5, 1935 to the late Paul R. and Bessie L. Gilmore in Downs, Kansas. Bob attended the Brainerd Indian School and Hot Springs High School in South Dakota. He attended Houghton College and was Fire Chief of the Houghton Volunteer Fire Department in Houghton, New York. Bobs career was in the electrical field. He was an Electrical Inspector for the New York Board of Fire Underwriters, taught residential, commercial electricity at Northwest Iowa Technical College in Sheldon, Iowa and designed airport runway lighting systems for W.P. Wills, Dallas, Texas.

Bob obtained his pilots licenses and enjoyed flying , going to rodeos, and traveling.

He is a member of the New Strawn Community Christian Church.

He is survived by his wife Mary Lou Newkirk. A brother, Ronald Gilmore, a sister, Laura Fiegl. His children, Edwin and Jacque Gilmore, Alan and Lynn Gilmore, Cheryl Gilmore, Angelia Gilmore, William Gilmore, Jim Stepter, Mike Stepter, Trinka Jacobs, Nelson Fink II, Dennis Fink, Tammy Talley, many Grandchildren, Great-Grandchildren, and Great-Great- Grandchildren.

He is predeceased by his parents, son Robert E. Gilmore, Timothy Gilmore, and a few wives, Mary Jane, Margaret, Jane, and Francis. Also, a grandson and a granddaughter, a brother Jesse and sister Pauline.

Burial will be at the Baker Cemetery, Burington, Kansas

A Memorial Service will be held at the New Strawn Community Christian Church on April 26th, 2026 at 2:00pm. A meal will not be served.

In lieu of flowers, Memorial contributions may be made to the Bob Gilmore Memorial Fund in care of Jones VanArsdale Funeral Home, P.O. Box 43, Lebo, Kansas 66856.
