Raymond, J. Martin, 72, passed away Saturday, July 5, 2025 at Midland Hospice Care in Topeka, while surrounded by those most dear.
He was born August 10, 1952 in Emporia, Kansas the son of Howard and Marjorie Whittington Martin. Raymond grew up attending Madison Schools and graduated from Madison High School with the Class of 1970.
He married the love of his life, Sharon Dudrey on August 14, 1971 at the First Christian Church in Madison. Raymond and Sharon made their home in the Madison Community and raised their family.
Raymond worked various jobs over the years in the Madison Community. He had worked with Harold Engle, Sr., Harold Luthi and Engle Farms. He had also served as a custodian at the Madison High School. Raymond put his ranching experience to use outside of work, participating in area rodeos, bulldogging and wild cow milking events.
His love of the outdoors included camping, water skiing, snow skiing, fishing and hunting. Activities he proudly passed down to his children and grandchildren. Raymond coached several of his son’s baseball teams and was present at their other sporting events whenever possible.
Raymond will live on in the hearts and treasured memories of his wife, Sharon; sons, Jesse and wife Ashleigh Martin of Stillwater, Oklahoma and Dustin and wife Sara Martin of Madison; his mother, Marjorie Jewell Martin; grandchildren, Mackenzie Martin, Maddox Martin, Miles Martin, Mason Martin, Hunter Martin, Cooper Martin and Dylan Martin; sisters, Vickie Griffith, Brenda Meyer and Deby Bailey; numerous nieces and nephews; extended family and a community of friends. Raymond was preceded in death by his father, Howard.
Services are scheduled for 10:30 A.M., Thursday, July 10, 2025 at the First Christian Church in Madison. Burial will follow services at Blakely Cemetery north of Madison. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6:00 P.M. until 7:30 P.M. at the Church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Madison Educational Assistance Fund and sent in care of the VanArsdale Funeral Home, P.O. Box #488, Madison, Kansas 66860.
