Margie Louise Belt, 78, of Madison, passed away Thursday, September 4, 2025 at Newman Regional Health in Emporia.
She was born November 21, 1946 in Hutchinson, Kansas the daughter of Charlie L. and Emma Louise Ramsey Rush.
Margie attended Hutchinson High School and graduated with the Class of 1964. She married the love of her life, John Owen Belt on April 24, 1964 in Hutchinson.
Margie and John began their lives together in Hutchinson. Shortly after getting married they bought a trailer and moved frequently as John’s lineman job with the railroad dictated. In the years to follow they made their home in Wichita and Jolliet, Illinois settling for a few years in John’s hometown of Marceline, Missouri where Margie worked at the local Soda Fountain. Margie and John later lived in Ottawa before putting roots down in Madison in the late 1970’s The two built their forever home in 1987.
Shortly after moving to Madison, Margie worked as a waitress at Country Kitchen and later Dryer Shoes in Emporia until 1987. Margie and John have owned and operated Belt Storage in Madison for the past 30 plus years.
Their home was a living testament to Margie’s love of nature and all things in it. She enjoyed watching her humming birds and the deer and various other wildlife that frequented their yard every day.
She will live on in the hearts and treasured memories of her husband, John Belt; daughter, Shelley Vogts and husband Mike; son John Ramsey Belt and his wife Lara Cotte'; grandchildren, Olive, Lucinda and Emily; numerous extended family and a community of dear friends.
