LaDonna F. Harcar, 69, passed away Wednesday, August 21, 2024 at Cedarhurst Senior Living in Lawrence.
LaDonna Faye Atchison was born February 19, 1955 in Osage City, Kansas, the daughter of Louis F. Atchison and Anna D. (Hooper) Ullrich. She graduated from Reading High School in 1973. Shortly after graduation, she was joined in marriage to Thomas Joseph Harcar on June 2, 1973 in Reading, Kansas.
She worked various small jobs while the family moved frequently due to Tom’s work with the Santa Fe Railroad, living in places like Illinois, Colorado, and Kansas, all while raising three daughters. LaDonna later worked for the Tonganoxie Public Schools as a school cook and in the summers worked at the schools doing various jobs like maintenance, painting and janitorial work. She was always doing something and on the go.
Family was very important to LaDonna. She cherished spending time with her large extended family, especially her siblings. She took great joy in watching her daughters and grandchildren participate in sports and other activities over the years, always being there to support them. LaDonna loved the outdoors and nature, enjoying activities like hiking, camping, fishing, boating, bicycling, and taking scenic drives.
LaDonna will be forever remembered by her daughters, Mechelle Harcar of Shawnee, Kansas, Angela (Dustin) Dick of Topeka, and Tracy Harcar of Tonganoxie; three grandchildren, Aubrey Dick of Lawrence, Seth Rafols of Des Moines, Iowa and Lydia Rafols of Tonganoxie; eight sisters, Frances Sapp, Peggy Myers, Regina (Ron) Combs, all of Osage City, Lela Ralphetta (Jesus) Enriquez of San Antonio, Texas, Marcella (David) Reynolds of Americus, Ranelda (Jay) Tatman of Emporia, Sandra (Elmer) Riley of Winchester, Kentucky, Christie (Bill) Davis of Chanute; seven brothers, Bradley (Mary) Atchison and Lonnie (Joye) Atchison, both of Reading, Rex (Gail) Atchison of Topeka, Clarence (Michelle) Atchison of Lyndon, Paul (Tina) Atchison of Topeka, Louis Dwayne (Diana) Atchison of Winchester, Kentucky, and Paul (Reannee) Myers of Emporia.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Thomas Harcar, a sister, Phyllis Atchison and a brother, Michael Atchison.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, August 26, 2024 at Jones VanArsdale Funeral Home, 107 W. Sixth, Lebo, Kansas. Burial to follow service at Arvonia Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday evening, August 25, 2024 from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
