Kem Duncan Hatfield, 56, passed away Friday, January 2, 2015 at his home in Osage City. He was born on April 15, 1958, in Excelsior Springs, Missouri, the son of George and Judy Duncan Hatfield. He grew up in Excelsior Springs, and as a young man, was plant manager at the Morton Concrete Block Company in Lawrence. Kem later owned and operated a home improvement business which took him throughout the United States. He married Linette Johnson, and they had four children together: Jessica (Josh) Gurney of Eudora, Jenna Hatfield of Topeka, Erik Hatfield of Topeka, and Taylor Hatfield of St. Mary's. They were later divorced. Kem married Christy Simon on May 12, 2009, in Oklahoma. He is survived by his wife Christy of their home; his four children; a sister Vickie Callahan (Kevin) of Americus; stepdaughter, Crystal Storms of Osage City; stepsons, Daniel Franks of Osage City, and Joshua Franks of Pleasanton; four grandchildren; eleven step grandchildren; mother- and father-in-law, Carol and Alvin Buschelman of Topeka; brother-and sister-in-law, Bill Simon (Keila) of Topeka, and numerous nieces and nephews. Kem was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Doug Hatfield and a sister, Mickie Denison. Services will be held at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at the Countryside Baptist Church in Osage City. Burial will be at Americus Cemetery. Condolences may be expressed at vanarsdalefs.com.
