Kelly Joy Hull, 60, of Lebo passed away unexpectedly in the early hours of February 24, 2021 at Stormont-Vail Health in Topeka.
Kelly was born on July 10, 1960, in Columbus to parents Keith Jacob and Betty Christine (Hudson) Porter. Kelly married John Barrenberg in 1984; they later divorced. She then renewed her friendship with Sheldon L. Hull, whom she met at college in 1979. He became the love of her life, and they married on August 15, 1987 in Augusta.
Kelly graduated in 1981 from Washburn University and worked in education as a teacher. She taught in many areas around Kansas, lastly in Wichita for the Wichita School District until she moved back to Coffey County. There she worked as a substitute teacher for many schools in the area before deciding to stay at home with her family.
Kelly was an avid reader of Sci-Fi novels. She enjoyed doing genealogy research for her own family, as well as offering her genealogical services to others throughout the state of Kansas and across the country. Sheldon and Kelly often traveled around the state finding relatives and snapping photos for those who had requested her help. Together they also worked with the Red Cross and were lifetime members of the Girl Scouts. Early on, Kelly and Sheldon were highly active members of the Lebo Baptist Church, teaching Sunday school and assisting with special events like Vacation Bible School in the summer.
Preceding her in death is her father, Keith Jacob Porter; mother-in-law, Mable H. (Cowell) Hull (Pettigrew); father-in-law, John W. Hull, II; and step-father-in-law, Charles W. Pettigrew.
Kelly is survived by her husband of 33 years, Sheldon L. Hull of Lebo; daughter, Elizabeth M. Hull of Newton; son, Jonathan J. Hull of Topeka; mother, Betty C. Porter of West Valley City, UT; step-mother, Lois M. Porter of Newton; siblings, Karra J. Porter and Five J. Porter, both of Layton, UT; sister-in-law Chery S. Peterson (Don) of Rogers, AR; brother-in-law John W. Hull, III (Sue) of Holland Patent, NY; and countless nieces, nephews, cousins, close friends & other family members.
The memorial service will be held July 12, 2021 at 10:00 AM in the First Baptist Church, 201 W Lincoln Ave, Wellington. Kelly’s inurnment service will follow at Sumner Memorial Gardens, in Wellington.
