Jerald Dale Crowell
“Spanky”
January 7, 1943 - May 9, 2025
Jerald was born on January 7th, 1943 during “the biggest snowstorm to ever hit Litchfield, Nebraska” to Evelyn M. Sickels and Roy E. Crowell. He & his older brother Donald were only 11 months apart. Roy, Evelyn, Donald, & Jerald moved to Emporia, Kansas when Jerald was only two weeks old. Six years later a baby brother, John E. Crowell was born. Jerald was predeceased in death by his father Roy, mother Evelyn, and younger brother John. Jerald passed away in his home after his battle with cancer surrounded by family.
Jerald was a graduate of Emporia High School in the Class of 1961. He entered the workforce, primarily running heavy equipment in various fields for the majority of his career. Jerald is survived by Debora D. Crowell & Roy B. Crowell of his first marriage, as well as their children and grandchildren.
Jerald married Julia A. Thomas of St. Louis, Missouri on September 17th, 1977. Jerald is also survived by Julia and their daughter Krystle Rene Tarver and her husband Justin of Wellington, TX, as well as their three children, Axl Lucas and fiancé Brielle Bowman, Mekenzy Lucas and fiancé Gavin Wood and their daughter Emberleigh Renae Wood, and Castin Tarver of the home.
Jerald was an avid hunter of upland game birds and enjoyed fishing for catfish, all of which he enjoyed with all of his kids as well as his grandkids, Axl, Mekenzy, and Castin. He was often the go-to guy when someone needed a fishing pole fixed or built and taught his daughter Krystle to carry on.
