Doxie Ann Mayer

Doxie A. Mayer, 78, passed away Tuesday, December 30, 2025, at Newman Regional Health in Emporia.

Doxie Ann Peres was born April 28, 1947, in Seatle, Washington, the daughter of William Ray and Gladys Darlene (Sare) Peres. She married Larry Mayer on July 1, 1967 in Emporia.

Doxie had worked as a nurse’s aide at St. Mary’s and Newman Hospital for many years. She loved camping (but not packing the camper), classic country music (many car rides were spent challenging her to name an artist and she rarely missed), and cheering on her granddaughters at their sporting events. She was not a fan of a hard foul against one of her girls. There was nothing she liked better than time with family and her friends.

She learned to make embroidered blankets and quilts and lovingly spent hours making them for her grandchildren and friends.

She will be forever remembered by her daughters, Lori (Jamie) Moore of Lebo and Connie Mayer of Aurora, Colorado; two sons, Steve (Pat) Jacob of Emporia and John (Amy) Jacob of Topeka; four grandchildren, Lacy (Boone) Cumberland of Overland Park, KS, Kassidy Jacob of Salina, Avery Moore and Alli Moore of Overland Park, Kansas, and Emily (Colton) Miller of Topeka; an honorary grandson, Gavin Coble; seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband and four sisters, Peggy Lauderback, Jackie Mills, Carol Newman, and Elaine Doke.

Memorial service is pending. Family request in lieu of flowers that memorial contributions be made to Prairie Paws Animal Shelter and sent in care of Jones VanArsdale Funeral Home, P.O. Box 43, Lebo, Kansas 66856.
