Donald Lee Harp

Donald Lee Harp, 70, passed away Monday, February 12 at his home in Lebo, Kansas.

He was born on April 6, 1953, in Jellico, Tennessee, the son of Bernice (Bennett) Rollins. He attended Hays High for a short time then joined the US Marines. He later received his GED and graduated from the Kansas Police Academy in Hutchinson, Kansas.

Donald married the love of his life, Jean Myra Riedel on March 8, 1974, in Hays, Kansas. To this union were born two daughters Stephanie (Robert) Stephens of Lebo, Kansas, and Geralen (Micheal) Davidson of McMinnville, Oregon.

They began their lives in Jellico, Tennessee where he worked as a coal miner. They then moved back to Kansas where he worked in the oil field doing numerous jobs. He then began working for the Kansas Department of Transportation in 1986 in Hays, Kansas. He would later transfer to Council Grove, Kansas as a Supervisor for the Department of Transportation and retire. He continued to work as a Police Chief for the City of Americus until he retired due to health issues.

Donald was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved gardening and the outdoors. He won numerous competitions with his bows and rifles. He also enjoyed helping Jean in the kitchen sampling all her good cooking and buying the newest kitchen gadgets he could find.

He will live on in the hearts and memories of his devoted wife and daughters, grand-children, two sisters Wanda Bankhead and Pam Bankhead, sister-in-law Lois (Charles) Albers, sister-in-law Marilyn (Arnie) Augustine, sister-in-law Elaine (Ken) Sanders, brother-in-law Myron (Rhonda) Riedel, brother-in-law Leon (Marilyn) Riedel, sister-in-law Jeannie Riedel, and sister-in-law Twila Riedel and numerous nieces and nephews.

Donald was preceded in death by his mom Bernice (Bennett) Rollins, brother Ronnie Harp, brother William Harp, brother Tony Harp, brother Rick Springfield, and sister Mary Helms.
