Dixie Ruth Greenwood, 92, passed away Sunday, August 16, 2026, at Presbyterian Manor in Emporia.

She was born December 9, 1933, in Cottonwood Falls, Kansas, the daughter of Claude and Myrtle White Linsea.

Dixie married William Dean Thompson on December 21, 1950, in Emporia. They made their home in Madison, Kansas. She worked at Madison Manor and later at the Dolly Madison Thrift Shop. Bill preceded Dixie in death on March 4, 1978.

Dixie married Billy Greenwood on May 18, 1995. Dixie and Billy enjoyed gardening and traveling to Arkansas for Billy’s Air Force reunions. Billy preceded her in death on February 11, 2023.

Dixie delivered meals for the Madison Senior Center for many years. She enjoyed painting, remodeled her homes and completed many home projects.

Dixie will live in the hearts and memories of her brother Dean Brassfield and wife Rita of AZ; daughter, Jane Welch of Madison, sons, Calvin Thompson of Gridley and William Thompson, Jr. of Emporia; stepdaughters, Nancy Kile and husband Gary of Madison, Laura Greenwood of Emporia and Gwen Hill and husband Jay of Florida; a stepson, William Greenwood and wife Jackie of Springfield, Missouri; eight grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and a community of friends. Dixie formed a special bond with her grandson, Brandon Welch, over the last years of her life. He became a caregiver for her and spent countless hours assisting her in the later part of her journey. Dixie was also preceded in death by a daughter, Sandra Thompson, two brothers, Jack Brassfield and Billy Brassfield and one sister, Mary Linsea.
