Connie Sue Martin, 88, passed away Saturday, October 3, 2026, at Sunflower Care Home of Emporia.
She was born on February 14, 1938, in Madison, Kansas the daughter of Elvin C. “Pat” and Vada Beatrice Lewis Murphy. Connie attended Madison High School and graduated with the Class of 1957.
Connie married Dail Dean Martin on June 23, 1957, at the First Christian Church in Madison. They began their lives together, living in town briefly before settling in their current home north of Madison. They spent a couple of years in Louisiana before returning home.
Connie was proud to be a homemaker and ranch wife that was always prepared to feed whoever was working that day. As her children grew, she traveled with them during their time competing in Little Britches Rodeo and High School Rodeo competition. Connie was more than a mother, wife, grandmother, and aunt. She earned her C.M.A. certification and worked at Madison Manor caring for others. Connie was also an Avon Representative for some time. She was a lifelong member of the First Christian Church in Madison and was a member of their Disciples Women’s Group. Connie also enjoyed the time she spent singing with the Sweet Adelines A cappella group from Eureka. She also a member of the White Rose Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star.
Connie’s legacy will live on through the lives of her daughter, Candee Martin of Madison; a son, Barry Martin of Madison; two grandchildren, Ashley (Josh) Cummins and Zach Martin; her two great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Zoe; numerous extended families and a community of friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dail on January 20, 2021; two sisters, Peggy McClelland and Millicent Arndt.
Services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, October 8, 2026, at the First Christian Church where Reverend Bob Robison will officiate. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening at the church from 6:00 P.M. until 7:30 P.M. Burial will follow services at Fairview Cemetery northeast of Madison. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Christian Church and sent in care of the VanArsdale Funeral Home, P.O. Box #488, Madison, Kansas 66860.
