Clyde Allen Fillmore

October 3, 1938 — March 30, 2026

Clyde Allen Fillmore, age 87, passed away on Monday, March 30, 2026, at his daughter’s home in Cedar, Kansas.

Clyde was born on October 3, 1938, on the family farm in Osage County, Kansas, to Fred and Ethel (Roakey) Fillmore. He grew up near Melvern Lake and attended Mount Pleasant Country School, later graduating from Lebo High School in 1956. Clyde continued his education at Emporia State University until being drafted into the United States Army in 1961. He served for two years in the Army’s Construction Engineering Department as an operations clerk and draftsman.

Following his service, Clyde returned home and worked in construction alongside his brother Dean before starting his own construction company in Osage City in the early 1970s. In 1985, he closed his business and joined King Construction, where he worked building bridges across the state of Kansas until his retirement in 2004.

In September of 1962, Clyde married Wilha (VanPettan) Madorin, becoming a proud father to Martin Madorin. Together they welcomed four more children: Annette in 1963, Rebecca in 1966, Cyrus in 1970, and Harriet in 1971. Clyde and Wilha later parted ways in 1979. In 1981, Clyde married Maurine (Conner) Bacon. Through this marriage, he welcomed five additional children into his life: Rodney and Ronald, and daughters Betty, Lois, and Ramona. Clyde and Maurine shared 30 loving years together until her passing on September 20, 2011.

In retirement, Clyde found great joy in fishing and in taking on select construction projects for family and friends. Among his most cherished accomplishments were helping design and build an addition to his church and assisting his nephew, Nathan Fillmore, in constructing his home. Clyde was also known for his craftsmanship on the lathe, creating beautiful wooden pieces that are treasured by family and friends across the country. He was a faithful member and Elder of Michigan Valley Community Church for over 22 years and will be remembered for his generosity, devotion to family, and willingness to help others.

Clyde is survived by his children: Annette (Lincoln) Graves, Rebecca (Marty) Mueller, Harriet (Jeff) Rebel, Martin Madorin, and Cyrus Fillmore; his stepchildren: Betty (Alan) Richardson, Lois (Leroy) Johnson, Ramona (Steve) Langley, and Ronald (Betty Lou) Bacon; 17 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and his sister, Annabelle Bolejack.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Ethel Fillmore; his first wife of 17 years, Wilha (VanPettan) Madorin; his second wife of 30 years, Maurine (Conner) Bacon; his step-grandson, Joshua Bacon; his sisters, Irma Born and Ethel Ruth Romine; and his brothers, Paul Fillmore, Robert Fillmore, Dean Fillmore, John Fillmore, Edd Fillmore, Fred Fillmore Jr., and Keith Fillmore.
