Bobby G. “Bob” Schmidt, 80, passed away on Friday, August 1, 2025, after a month-long struggle from a fall. Bob died during palliative care at Stormont-Vail Hospital.
Bob was born May 11, 1945, in Newton, Kansas, the son of Ted Reimer and Agnes (Hiebert) Schmidt.
He was joined in marriage to Myrna L. Sheegog on December 21, 1968, in Pratt, Kansas. They were happily married for 56 ½ years.
He graduated from Walton High School, Walton, Kansas in 1963. He received a private and a commercial pilot license before attending college. Later, he received his bachelor’s degree in business administration from Emporia State University and a graduate degree from the Graduate School of Banking in Madison, Wisconsin. Bob worked in banking at Citizens State Bank in Osage City followed by being Vice President of G-Trust in Topeka.
Bob loved traveling, photography and gardening. Other highlights of his life were stained glass and reading. Bob was a soft spoken, patient, gentle spirit with a devotion to his church and to God. He was a faithful servant of being treasurer of his church, library board, and Osage City Kiwanis.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a twin sister, Betty Joan Schmidt and two twin great nephews, Owen and Eli Nye.
Bob will be forever remembered by his wife, Myrna; his sister, Janice (Jeffrey) Heddin of North Newton, Kansas; a nephew, Mark (Geri) Schroeder of Walton, Kansas; three nieces, Betty Jantzen of Tahlequah, Oklahoma, Barbara (DeLane) Unruh of Moundridge, Kansas, Angela (Ryan) Nye of Walton, Kansas and thirteen great nieces and nephews. Myrna’s family was also his family, Rita and Gary Romine and their son, Kevin.
A private burial was held at Greenlawn Cemetery in Pratt, Kansas. A celebration of life will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 6, 2025, at the Overbrook Bible Church in Overbrook, Kansas. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Overbrook Bible Church for landscaping project. Condolences may be expressed at Vanarsdalefs.com.
