Wretha L. Mcdaniel

Wretha L. McDaniel 81, passed away Monday, September 24, 2018 at Stormont-Vail Hospital in Topeka. She was born October 4, 1936 in Council Grove, Kansas the daughter of Charles and Jewel Reasoner    VanFossen. Wretha grew up in the Council Grove area and attended Council Grove High School. She met the love of her life, Jack McDaniel at the local Council Grove Fair. They would forever be joined in marriage on January 22, 1955 in Kansas City.  They lived in Council Grove before moving to Benton, Arkansas in the late 1960’s. While in Benton, Wretha worked as a surgical nurse.  Wretha and Jack later lived in Killeen and Woodland Texas as well as Florida. During their time in Texas, she operated Wretha’s Child Care. In 1991, Wretha left Texas to care for her mother in Americus, Kansas. In 1998 Wretha returned to Texas, living in Brenham before ultimately making their home in Madison, Kansas in 2001. Wretha continued to provide child care until her retirement in 1998. Following  Jack’s death on January 3, 2017, Wretha moved to an apartment on Bluestem Drive in Madison. She will live on in the hearts of her daughter, Deann Dittmar of Coffeyville; a son Doug McDaniel of Mission, Kansas; grandchildren, Amy Heineken, Scott Saunders, Lisa Burton, Kimberly Hinrichs,  Joshua McCarthy and Caleb Crocker; great-grandchildren, Matthew, Michael, Jack, Gavin, Emma Grace, Olivia, Wyatt, Franklin, Madison, Drew, Deacon, Avarie, Conall; a great-grandchild, Grayson Dean Heineken. She was preceded in death by her husband Jack; her parents; sisters, Darlene, Verna, Evelyn and Ann as well as a brother Bus.  Private graveside inurnment will take place at Four Mile Cemetery south of Council Grove at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cornerstone Baptist Church and sent in care of the VanArsdale Funeral Home at Box #488, Madison, Kansas 66860.
