Wanda Aileen King

Wanda Aileen (Steinhoff) King, 93 of Osage City, passed away Wednesday, November 15, 2023, at Brookside Retirement Community in Overbrook, KS.


She was born on May 26, 1930, in Newton, KS, the daughter of Jess and Effie Fritts Steinhoff. She attended Osage High School and graduated in 1948. Wanda was united in marriage to Edward James King on October 14, 1950, in Osage City. After Ed’s time serving in the Air Force, the couple made their home in Osage City on their farm, just north of town.


For most of her life in Osage City, Wanda was an active member of the United Methodist Church. She served as Sunday School Superintendent and taught Sunday School for over 50 years. She was a member of the United Methodist Women and held many other roles in the church. Wanda also served as Cub Scout Den Mother while her sons were in the scouts. She also enjoyed her frequent volunteer work with ECAT, part of Harvester’s Food Network.


She is preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Ed King; parents, Jess and Effie Steinhoff; a sister, Delma Sampson; and brother, Roy Steinhoff.


Wanda is survived by her four children, Michael King of Osage City, Marsha (Bruce) Cummins of Springhill, KS, Jeffrey (Kareen) King of Lawrence, KS, and Aileen (Chris) Carlson of Osage City; 9 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren; and 4 step-great-grandchildren.


Services for Wanda will be held on Monday, November 20, 2023, at the Osage City United Methodist Church. Visitation will be held at 1:00 pm with the funeral service following at 2:00 pm. Burial will take place immediately following services at Osage City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent c/o VanArsdale Funeral Chapel, 107 N 6th St, Osage City, KS 66523.
