Virginia Sauder

January 8, 1933 — October 26, 2023

Virginia “Ginny” Slead Sauder, 90, passed away October 26, 2023 in Ohio.

She was born January 8, 1933 in Emporia, Kansas, the daughter of Chris and Eunice Downs Slead. The family moved to Lebo when Ginny was only 8 years old. She loved the farm life, raising geese, gathering eggs and gardening. She was later a member of the local farm community women’s club.

Ginny attended Lebo High School and was a Cheerleader for all four years. She would go on to graduate with the Class of 1950. Virginia attended Emporia State where she met her husband of 71 years, Joe Sauder of Gridley.

They would be married in 1952 at the Lebo United Methodist Church. The two made their home in Kansas City until 1970 when they moved to Illinois. In 1975 they would settle in Ohio and live out the remainder of their lives.

Even though she lived far away, Virginia’s heart was always here in Lebo. Her family enjoyed many special times and Thanksgivings at her family farm.

Her love of art and her immense talent made her very special. She created many original-design quilts and led a quilting group for ladies who learned to be quilters from her example. Virginia loved all types of nature, especially birds and flowers. Besides her art, her special talent was lovingly taking care of her family.

Ginny will live on in the hearts and memories of her husband, Joseph Sauder; son, Philip Sauder; daughters, Sandy Fisher and Julie Clinton; and seven grandchildren, Corey Fisher, Heather Jarrell, Kim Edwards, Krista Morgan, Jackie Tyner, Jenna Clinton and Christopher Sauder; ten great-grandchildren; numerous extended family and a host of friends.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Friday, November 3, 2023 at the Lebo Creek Cemetery south of Lebo.
