Vereta Mae Peters

August 11, 1925 — December 19, 2019

Vereta M. Peters, 94, passed away Thursday, December 19, 2019 at Sunset Manor in Waverly. She was born August 11, 1925 in Eskridge, Kansas the daughter of Ralph M. and Velma E. Thomas Richards. Vereta lived on a farm near Eskridge until moving to Topeka in 1940. Vereta was joined in marriage to Richard L. Peters on January 4, 1943 in Harveyville, Kansas.  She had worked as a cook at the Kansas Neurological Institute for eight years before her retirement in the late 1970’s. In 1985, she moved to Lebo to be near her son and his family. In early 2015 Vereta moved to the Sunset Manor in Waverly.  She will live on in the hearts and memories of her daughter-in-law, Nancy Peters of Lebo; five grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren and two great-great–grandchildren; as well as many extended family and friends. Vereta was preceded in death by her husband, Dick; a son, Ronald Peters, Sr.; a sister, Verleen DeGraff and a brother Vivian “Bud” Richards.  Services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Friday, December 27, 2019 at the Jones VanArsdale Funeral Home in Lebo. Burial will follow services at Mt. Hope Cemetery near Neosho Rapids. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services on Friday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Hand In Hand  Hospice and sent in care of the funeral home. Condolences may be expressed at vanarsdalefs.com.
