Thelma E. Sullivan

June 30, 1922 — January 8, 2019

Thelma E. Sullivan, 96, passed away Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at Emporia Place.           She was born June 30, 1922 in rural Coffey County, the daughter of John A. and Margaret ”Hazel” Danford  Hitchens. Thelma was raised in the Agricola and Melvern areas and attended Melvern High School. She married Jack Sullivan on March 1, 1938 in Oklahoma. They would make their home on a farm near Frog Creek in the Key West Township. In 1945 they moved into Lebo where she spent the remainder of her life before moving into Emporia Place a few years ago. Thelma worked with her husband on the family farm and  later drove a truck hauling livestock for many years.  She was a longtime Avon Representative. Thelma served as the site manager for the Lebo Senior Center for over 20 years and was proud to pass on her steadfast work ethic to her family. She was a member of the Lebo United Methodist Church an the United Methodist Women. Thelma also enjoyed being a member of the Red Hat Society. She was an avid Bingo player. and had the collection of prizes to prove it. She will live on in the hearts of her daughters, Kara Wolford and her husband Craig of Hartford and Connie Detweiler of Lebo; a sister, Doris Brown of Topeka; five grandchildren, Shane Wolford and his wife Vickie, Ashley Krueger and her husband Travis, Brent Siebuhr, Trevor Siebuhr and his wife Whitney, and Kylie Helmer; six great-grandchildren, Emma, Mackenzie, Allison and Della Krueger, Alana Wolford and Harper Siebuhr. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack; a daughter, Jacqueline K. and a sister Beatrice Godfrey. Graveside services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Monday, January 14, 2019 at Lincoln Cemetery in Lebo. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 5:30 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at the Jones VanArsdale Funeral Home in Lebo. Memorial contributions may be made to Emporia Place and sent in care of the funeral home. Condolences may be expressed at vanarsdalefs.com.
