Ronald Leroy "Ron" Peters

April 15, 1945 — December 8, 2017

Ronald LeRoy Peters, 72 of Lebo passed away Friday, December 8, 2017 at the University of Kansas Hospital in Kansas City, Kansas.
      He was born April 15, 1945 in Topeka, Kansas the son of Richard L. and Vereta M. Richards Peters.  Ron attended Highland Park High School in Topeka and graduated with the Class of 1964.  
       Ron was drafted into the United States Army on August 16, 1965. He served with the 101st Airborne. As part of his service he trained cadets at West Point Military Academy. He earned a honorable discharge on August 16, 1967. Following his active duty service, Ron served two years as an Army Reservist. He would later join the American Legion Post #323 of Lebo. 
      Ron returned to the area after his military service, living in Neosho Rapids and then Lebo at which time he began working at I.B.P. in Emporia. He had the opportunity to transfer to the processing plant in Amarillo where he worked as a supervisor. Ron worked in several beef processing plants in Texas before moving back to Lebo in 1980. For the next five years Ron worked with Daniels Constructions at the Wolf Creek Nuclear Power Plant. His other jobs included Modine Manufacturing, serving as custodian at the Quenemo Grade School and later at the Lebo Schools before retiring in 2007. 
        Ron was joined in marriage to Nancy Ormsby on August 14, 1981 at the Sundance area of Melvern Lake. 
       Ron enjoyed all things outdoors and was an avid fisherman, hunter and all around sportsman. He shared his love of nature with his children and grandchildren, passing on the craft of hunting and fishing to future generations. 
         He will live on in the hearts of his wife of 36 years, Nancy Peters of their home; daughters, Micki Ann Richards (Ed) of Lebo, Kimberly Dawn Smith (John) of Lebo and Kayla Jean Peters (Katie) of Wichita; sons, Vernon Peters (Holly) of Burlington and Ronald LeRoy Peters, Jr. of Lebo; his mother Vereta Peters of Waverly; fifteen grandchildren and one great- grandchild. Ron was preceded in death by his father Richard and an infant sister. 
        Memorial services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, December 14, 2017 at the Jones VanArsdale Funeral Home in Lebo. Inurnment will follow services at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Neosho Rapids. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 5:30 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home.  Condolences may be expressed at vanarsdalefs.com.
