Rex L. Becker

July 5, 1947 — February 3, 2018

Rex L. Becker, 70, of Emporia, passed away Saturday,  February 3, 2018 at the Kansas Heart Hospital in Wichita. He was born July 5, 1947 in Onega, Kansas, the son of Richard Charles and Mable Margaret Stelter Becker. Rex attended Emporia High School and graduated with the Class of 1965. Following high school, Rex entered the United States Army, serving in Vietnam. He would complete his service through the US Army Reserve in 1969. In 1979, Rex earned a teaching certificate from Flint Hills Vo. Tech in short-term adult vocational programs, such as machine shop operations. In 1966, Rex began working at Didde Web Press Corporation in Emporia. After his military service he returned to Didde and worked his way up to Fabrication Process Planner. He took part-time employment as an automotive service and repair technician with Cliff’s Super Service in Emporia. In July 2001 he began working at Caterpillar in Emporia as a production associate in wheels until his retirement in 2014. He married Carolyn Funk in June of 1976. They divorced after 25 years of marriage. Rex will live on in the hearts of his sons, Jeff Becker of Emporia and Travis Becker and his wife Brandy of Parker, Colorado; sisters, Diana McElfresh and her husband Howard of Emporia and Connie Uttinger and her husband Lowell of Lebo; five grandchildren, Colby, Seth, Austin, Brooklyn and Colton; numerous extended family and countless dear friends. The family invites you to visit with them from 5:30 P.M. until 7:00 P.M., Friday, February 9, 2018 at the Jones VanArsdale Funeral Home in Lebo.  Cremation will follow private military honors on Saturday morning. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Emporia Friends of The Zoo or V.F.W. Post #5 of Emporia where Rex had been a member for many years or Camp Alexander and sent in care of the funeral home. Condolences may be expressed at vanarsdalefs.com.
