PATRICIA A. MATERN

Topeka- Patricia A. Matern, 84, passed away Wednesday, September 11, 2019 at Stormont Vail Health in Topeka.

Patricia Ann Garland was born February 26, 1935 in Emporia, the daughter of Sylvester and Irene (Fish) Garland. She and her twelve siblings were raised in Hartford, Kansas. She graduated from Hartford High School in 1953 and lived in Long Beach CA, Chicago IL and Kansas City KS before settling in Topeka. She worked and retired from the Santa Fe Railroad as an accounting clerk.

She will be forever remembered by her daughters, Wanda Keith of Emporia KS, Cindy Rose of Kansas City KS, and Kathy “Katie” Laatikainen of New York City, NY; three brothers, Kennith Garland of Buffalo MO, Larry Garland of Monet, MO, Harold “Keith” Garland of Wichita KS; three grandchildren, Krystal Denham, Ryan Bly, Kai Laatikainen and her great-grandchildren, Dominic Burnes, Hudson Boggs, Beckett Boggs, Jaevyn Denham, Kyrion Denham and Kaleesi Denham.

She is preceded in death by her son, Mark Verlin; first husband, Gerald Verlin; and her second husband, Charles Matern; her brothers and sisters, Lawrence, William, George, John, Betty, Donald “Ike”, Cecil, Mary, and Rose.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 28, 2019 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Dillon House, 404 SW 9th St., Topeka, KS 66612. Burial to follow at the St Mary of the Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Hartford, KS.
