Mary Lou Jones

February 25, 1930 — December 19, 2022


Mary Lou Jones, 92 of Osage City, passed away early Monday, December 19, 2022 at Emporia Presbyterian Manor.


She was born February 25, 1930 in Osage City, Kansas the daughter of William and Opal Skidmore Bolyard. Mary Lou attended Osage City High School and graduated with the Class of 1949.


Mary Lou married the love of her life, Robert Edward Jones on March 19, 1955 in Osage City. Their entire married lives were spent in Osage City where Mary Lou mastered the art of being a mother, wife and homemaker. As time went on her skills were focused on the grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.


As time passed and Mary Lou and Bob began to experience short moments of free time they loved to just take off and go somewhere for the day. They always made a point of returning home a different route just to get a different perspective.


Mary Lou will live on in the hearts and memories of her daughters, Bobbi Rieck and husband Bill of Ankeny, Iowa and Mary Jane DeHerrera and husband John of Topeka and Connie Call and her husband Jack of Emporia; sisters, Colleen Shirley of Osage City, Nat Persinger of Osage City, Janie Chesley of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, Susie Carlson of Osage City and Annie Williamson of Leavenworth; brothers, Tom Bolyard of Topeka and Billy Bolyard of Osage City; fourteen grandchildren, Brian Koehler, Brad Koehler, John Rieck, Leah Rieck, Lauren Rieck, Danielle Biller, Luke Davies, John Don DeHerrera, Diane Vanderwater, Austin Jones, Tyler Jones, Mason Jones, Brooke Call and Baylee Call; nineteen great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; numerous extended family and a community of dear friends. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband Bob on July 29, 2011. Mary Lou also lost a son, Ed Jones on May 14, 2016 and two brothers, Micky Bolyard and Jimmy Bolyard.


The family invites you to come celebrate her life at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, December 27, 2022 at the VanArsdale Funeral Chapel in Osage City, Kansas. Burial will follow services in Osage City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 P.M. until service time Tuesday at the funeral chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society and sent in care of the funeral chapel. Condolences my be expressed at vanarsdalefs.com.
