Lloyd E. Sumner was born on September 15, 1946 to J.H. “Pete” & Betty L. Marks Sumner of Garnett, Kansas.
Lloyd grew up with his siblings in Garnett. He attended Garnett High School graduating with the Class of 1965. Lloyd would go on to Emporia State University where he graduated with a degree in Education. He furthered his education at Kansas University where he earned his Masters Degree.
Lloyd married his first wife, Margaret “Peggy” Studer and had one son, Kirk. Prior to her death they had a grandson, Mac.
Lloyd taught grade school and went on to become a school administrator. He retired after 42 years of service as an educator. Lloyd served many years in the United States Army and retired as an E8 Sergeant. During his time in service to his country, he served in the Desert Storm War.
Lloyd was joined in marriage to Bobbie Kindig in 2009. They enjoyed playing cards with his parents, his brother Larry Sumner, his wife Diana and his sister Joyce Malone. Lloyd also enjoyed playing golf with friends. Lloyd and Bobbie loved traveling and showing their miniature horses. The country life was a big part of Lloyd’s enjoyment. Everything from mowing to feeding the animals.
Along with the horse and farm activities, Lloyd loved taking weekend and day trips with his step daughter, Jamie Stewart. They went to museums, festivals and many other events or sometimes just out for lunch. Lloyd was an avid Kansas City Chiefs fan and enjoyed many sports including, baseball, golf and basketball.
A “Celebration of Life” will be scheduled at a later date to honor the “Wonderful Man!”
