Lavona Faye Hopkins

November 21, 1934 — April 24, 2018

Lavona Faye Hopkins, 83, passed away Tuesday, April 24, 2018 at her home in Hartford, Kansas. She was born November 21, 1934 in Beyers, Kansas the daughter of Luchen J. and Pearl Mae  Keen Brown. Lavona attended LeRoy High School and graduated with the Class of 1952. Later that same year on October 11th, Lavona was joined in marriage to Warner Rogers Hopkins at the LeRoy Christian Church.   During the early years of their marriage Lavona and Roger lived in Kansas City, Missouri before moving to Burlington in the early 1960’s. The young couple also lived in Seymour, Missouri and Neosho Rapids, Kansas before making their home in Hartford for the past 50 years.  Lavona spent several years at home starting and raising her family. She earned her CNA certification and began working at Hartford Manor before becoming a school bus driver and custodian for USD #252 in Hartford. Lavona would continue this for ten years before returning to her career as a caregiver at Hartford Inc. She later retired after fifteen years to care for her ailing mother.  Lavona will live on in the hearts of her daughters, Janet Hopkins of Hartford and Kathy Hopkins of Lebo; her sons, Tony Hopkins and his wife Jan of Phoenix, Arizona and Mark Hopkins and his wife Linda of Lebo; sisters, Imogene Bazil of Emporia, Imolee Schath of Blue Springs, Missouri and Velva Keister of Haywood, California; grandchildren, Eric, Jennifer, Lacey, Andrew, Matthew and Jamison; great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Anthony, Brianna, Brayden, Brycen, Brylee, Alexis, Erika and Drayden; a son-in-law, Larry Hall of Perry; as well as numerous extended family and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Warner Rogers Hopkins; a daughter, Susan Hall; two grandchildren, Karen Ann and Amy Christine and a daughter-in-law, Pamela Hopkins.  The family will be receiving friends from 5:30 P.M., until 7:00 P.M. Friday evening at the Jones VanArsdale Funeral Home in Lebo. Memorial contributions may be made to the  Humane Society of the Flint Hills and sent in care of the funeral home.
