John William Phipps

John W. Phipps, 66, passed away Sunday, July 19, 2015 at Newman Regional Health. ��He was born November 2, 1948 in Garden City, Kansas the son of William Lyle and Margaret Alice Caldwell Phipps. ��John attended Garden City High School and graduated with the Class of 1966. After graduation he began classes at Garden City Junior College. During high school John started working at Woolworth's and worked his way into the management training program. He transferred to Emporia in 1968. John went on to become a shipping supervisor at Dolly Madison, working there from 1971 until 1997. While working full time he began taking classes at E.S.U. and earned a Bachelors degree in Business Administration with a double minor in Psychology and Sociology in the spring of 1977. He later worked as a shag driver at Tyson from November 1997 until his retirement in May of 2015. ��He was an active and devoted member of the New Life Christian Church. His great love for his church and his family was immeasurable. John proudly served for seven years with the Kansas Air National Guard. ��John married the love of his life, Marilyn Joy Fritz on December 19, 1968 in Emporia. He will remain in the hearts of his wife Marilyn Phipps of their home; three daughters, Chris Divish and her husband Tony of Wamego, Kim Webb and her husband Kenny of Olpe and Pam Garcia of Emporia; ten grandchildren, Olivia Divish, Tyler Divish, Derek Vaughn, Kelsey Vaughn, Tagan Webb, Amanda Webb, Shayla Webb, Alec Garcia, Ethan Garcia and Ryan Garcia; five great-granddaughters, Chloe Vaughn, Harper Jensen, Miah Jensen, Railee Jensen and Jurnee Webb; a sister, Nancy Leiker of Summerville, Florida; two brothers, Tom Phipps of Daytona Beach, Florida and Jimmy Phipps of Garden City and many extended family and dear friends. Cremation is planned with memorial services being held at 10:00 A.M. Friday, July 24, 2015 at the New Life Christian Church east of Emporia. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Church or Hidden Haven Christian Camp and sent in care of the Jones VanArsdale Funeral Home of Lebo.
