John Harlan Lyman

John Harlan Lyman, 70, passed away Saturday, December 24, 2017 at the Sunset Manor in Waverly.  He was born April 6, 1947 at the family home near Lebo, the son of William A. and Pearl M. Dixon Lyman.   John attended Lebo High School and graduated with the Class of 1965.  He joined the Army Reserves and was later called to active duty. John proudly served in Vietnam before earning an honorable discharge on August 18, 1969.  He married Nancy Hansell in 1969 at the Baptist Church in Waverly. They were later divorced. John worked at the Lebo Grain Company for 45 years as the assistant manager and truck driver. He was a member of the corner coffee group and always had time to discuss his love for the Kansas Jayhawks. In his free time, John could often be found driving throughout the surrounding area checking the crops and enjoying the local wildlife.   John was a member of the Lebo Baptist Church and the Lebo American Legion Post #323.  He will live on in the hearts of his daughter, Holly Ann Myers and her husband Clint of Lebo; sister, Marjorie M. Renfro of Emporia; brothers,William “Roger” Lyman of Chapman, Larry D. Lyman of Americus and M. David Lyman of Lebo and three grandsons, Kyle, Garrett and Koy Myers of Lebo. John was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son, Heath Harlan Lyman; brothers, Donald L. Lyman, Harvey F. Lyman, Herbert L. Lyman, Thomas K. Lyman and Robert D. Lyman. Cremation is planned with a memorial service being held at 10:30 A.M., Friday, December 29, 2017 at the Jones VanArsdale Funeral Home in Lebo. Inurnment will be at a later date in the Key West Cemetery east of Lebo. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 5:00 P.M. until 6:30 P.M. at the funeral home.
