Harvey Louis Shiffer

Harvey L. Shiffer, 76, of Emporia passed away Tuesday, March 20, 2018 at the University of Kansas Hospital in Kansas City, Kansas.                 He was born January 28, 1942 in Phoenix, Arizona the son of Ralph and Neeta May Bykerk Shiffer. Harvey attended Franklin High School in Portland, Oregon.  Harvey joined the United States Navy in 1960 and served 13 years before receiving an honorable discharge. During his military service he was stationed in Norfolk, Virginia and worked as an electronic instructor at the Great Lakes Naval Station. He also served on the USS America in 1965. Following his military service he was employed at Baxter Medical Equipment in Illinois before moving to Kansas in 2000. Once back in Kansas he worked in the security department of Wolf Creek Nuclear Power Station and  later as a Scale Technician at IBP. He was also a substitute Postmaster for the Community of  Admire.   He married JoAnn Grimshaw in 1967. They had a daughter, JoAnn preceded him in death in 2004.  Harvey would later marry Eldeen Decker Meyer on August 2, 2008 in Lebo.  Harvey was a member of the Lebo Baptist Church, Lebo Masonic Lodge #152 AF&AM and the Lebo American Legion Post #323.  He will live on in the hearts of his wife, Eldeen of their home; a daughter, Marjorie Allen and her husband Clifford of Neosho Rapids, grandchildren, Luke Allen and his wife Anna, Aaron Allen and his fiancé  Sarah, Felicity Allen and Hadassah Allen and a great-grandson, Maverick Allen; a daughter, Bonnie Jean.  Services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, March 24, 2018 at the Lebo Baptist Church. Burial will follow services at Hartford Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:00 P.M. until 7:30 P.M. at the Jones VanArsdale Funeral Home in Lebo.
