Harold Leon Luthi

October 24, 1931 — May 15, 2024

Harold Leon Luthi, 92, a life-long resident of Madison, went to be with his Lord and Savior on May 15, 2024, after battling cancer.


Harold was born on October 24th, 1931, to Dan and Ida (Imthurn) Luthi. He attended school at the No. 8 schoolhouse and Madison High School, graduating in 1949. He attended one semester of college at Kansas State University and was a KSU Wildcat and purple fan for life.


On December 16, 1951, he married Cleo Fern Wiggins at the First Christian Church in Madison. Together they had five children. After 52 years of marriage, Cleo passed away following a battle with Parkinson’s disease. He later married Carlita Hoover on February 10th, 2007.


He was a life-long farmer and rancher in Greenwood County. He was a member of the Greenwood County Cattleman Association serving as president in 1986. He was a founding member of the Madison Pacesetter 4-H Club, serving as a leader later in life. He was also proud to receive his 55-year membership pin and plaque as a member of the Madison Lions Club.


Harold was a committed Christian, a devoted husband and father, and a member of the First Christian Church serving as deacon, trustee and elder where never missed an Easter Sunday during his lifetime.


He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Joel Dan Luthi and two sisters, Mary Jean Mackey and Wilma Rose Hopkins.


Survivors include his wife, Carlita of Burlington; his son, Hal (Sheila) Luthi of Madison; daughters, Jane (Brad) Sommers of Hiawatha, Mari (Brett) Schaefer of Coppell, Texas, and Diane (Bob) Fleming of Overland Park, Kansas; step-children, Ron (Sandie) Hoover of Burlington, Lisa Hoover of Kansas City, Missouri and Tammy (Brad) Krebs of Quincy, Illinois; his beloved grandchildren, Dallas (Sarah) Luthi, Darcy (Klint) Henke, Matthew (Megan) Sommers, Jenna (Robbie) Dean, Laura (Travis) Synder, Morgan Schaefer and Kara and Chelsea Fleming, and ten great grandchildren; Cohen, Caylin, Colter and Cooper Luthi, Laikyn and Lane Henke, Declan, Newell, Palmer Snyder and Grant Sommers.


Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 25, 2024 at the First Christian Church in Madison. Burial to follow service at No. 8 Cemetery, east of Madison. Family will receive friends Friday evening, May 24, 2024 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the First Christian Church. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Christian Church or the Madison FFA Building Fund and sent in care of VanArsdale Funeral Home, P.O. Box 488, Madison, Kansas 66860.
