Francis Levi Whinery, Jr.

Francis L. Whinery, Jr., 68, passed away Thursday, October 12, 2017 at his home in Hartford.

Francis Levi Whinery was born September 24, 1949 in Emporia, KS, the son of Francis Levi and Emma Lucile (Lambeth) Whinery, Sr. He graduate from Emporia High School in 1967. After high school, he listed in the United States Navy and served during the Vietnam War.

He was joined in marriage to Sandra McGill on August 15, 1981. They later divorced.

Francis had various job during his life. He was excavator, owned and operated Whinery Backhoe, journeyman plumber, and he also did scrap metal recycling.

He was a member of the American Legion Post #5 and V.F.W. Post 1980, both in Emporia, and V.F.W. in Burlington. He had the great honor on recently going on the USD 252 Honor Flight.

Francis will be forever be remembered by his two daughters, Heather (Errol) Myers of Americus and Melissa Buckridge of Emporia; a son, Robert McGill, Sr. of Hartford; four sisters, Francine Burke, Joyce Whinery and Eleanor Carley, all of Burlington and Edna (Jesse) McGill of Fredericksburg, VA; a brother, Warren Whinery of Hartford; seven grandchildren, Lacey, Tony, Robert, Jr., Austin, Dalton, Chandler and Samatha and two great-grandchildren, Lily and Leah.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Connie Mae Whinery.

Funeral service will be held at 1:30 pm, Tuesday, October 17, 2017 at the Jones VanArsdale Funeral Home in Lebo. Family will receive friend Monday evening from 6:00 to 7:30 pm at the funeral home. Burial and Military Honors to follow service at Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Emporia.
