Ernie Albin

June 19, 1930 — October 1, 2014

Ernest B. Albin, 84, passed away Wednesday, October 1, 2014 at Holiday Resort in Emporia. He was born June 19, 1930 in Emporia, the son of Charles Henry and Susie Edna Mast Albin. Ernie joined the United States Army in 1947 at the age of 17 where he served as a map maker. He completed his G.E.D. In April 1949 during his military service. He was honorably discharged on May 19, 1950. Ernie began working for the Santa Fe Railroad after leaving the Army. He was as a conductor for 50 years before his retirement in the early 2000's. He met his wife Arlene Fox shortly after his retirement. His many memberships include, 54 years as a member of the Ben Hur Masonic Lodge #322 in Overland Park; V.F.W. Post #1654 of Emporia; 56 year member of the American Legion Post #5 of Emporia, Arab Shrine Temple of Topeka. He is survived by his wife, Arlene of Emporia; two sisters, Jane McIlvain of Emporia and Nora McKell of Santa Clara, Utah; three sons, Roy Crowell (Rosa Mason) of Emporia, Chris Hyson and Travis Hyson of Emporia; twelve grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Olan and Jerry and two sisters, Wilma Davis and Marilyn Foster.
