EMILY W. VANSICKLE

OSAGE CITY, KANSAS- Emily W. VanSickle, 88, passed away, Thursday, June 30, 2016 at Osage Nursing in Osage City.

Emily was born July 9, 1927 in Westmoreland to Charlie and Marceline (Couture) Zabel, Jr.. She was a graduate of Reading High School and attended post graduate at Harveyville High.

Emily married Max Van Sickle July 17, 1949 and they were happily married 63 years. Emily was a resident of Osage City for 61 years.

Emily was an active community member from her youth to her silver years, serving roles in women’s societies, church offices, Den Mother, Band Parents’ Organization, blood drives, and ECAT. Max and Emily enjoyed square dancing, and Emily was also a talented pianist/organist, quilter, and an avid bowler. She worked as a linotypist before children and later served for a number of years as Secretary at the First United Methodist Church in Osage City.

Above all, Emily cherished and served her home, providing comfort for their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by husband Max and son David. Emily is survived by her sister, Alice Lister (Topeka), and four children: Doug Van Sickle (Atoka, TN), Shirley Stair (Emporia), Beverly Smith (Topeka), and Michael Van Sickle (Osage City). She had thirteen grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm, Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at the United Methodist Church in Osage City. Family will receive friends an hour before service at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to ECAT and sent in care of VanArsdale Funeral Chapel, 107 N. Sixth, Osage City, Kansas 66523. Condolences may be expressed at vanarsdalefs.com.
