Ellen Elizabeth Sergeant

Ellen Elizabeth Sergeant, 85, of Lebo passed away early Monday, September 29, 2014 at the Sunset Manor in Waverly. She was born June 5, 1929 in Wolf Lake, Illinois, the daughter of Raymond Charles and Lena Mildred Markert Schaefer. Ellen grew up in Wolf Lake and graduated from Wolf Lake High School with the Class of 1947. Ellen was forever joined in marriage to Charles Odean Sergeant on May 17, 1947 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Anna, Ill. The young couple lived in Illinois, Missouri, Chanute, Kansas and Texas before settling down to raise their family on their farm in Lebo. Ellen was a devoted mother and homemaker. She was an avid gardener who enjoyed her flowers and canning the homegrown produce she grew. She was an accomplished seamstress and loved to travel. Ellen's many memberships include, St. Joseph Catholic Church in Waverly, Lebo American Legion Post #323 Auxillary, the Red Hat Society and the Silver Lake E.H.U. Ellen and Odean celebrated 62 years of marriage before his death on December 25, 2009. She was also preceded in death by a son, Raymond Charles "Chuck" Sergeant; a daughter, Alicia Ann Stracener; an infant sister, Constance; two brothers, Cyril and Carrol Schaefer and her parents. She will forever be cherished by a daughter, Karen Elaine Robinson and her husband Malcolm of Topeka; a son, Michael Steven Sergeant of Lebo; two brothers, Eugene Schaefer of Dongola, Il., and Jimmy Schaefer of Jonesboro, Il.; five grandchildren, Adam and Aron Sergeant, Robbie Stracener, Ashley Robinson and Ingrid Liby; three great-grandchildren, Andrew and Delilah Sergeant and Mallory Liby. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 AM., Saturday, October 4, 2014 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Waverly. Burial will follow services at Lincoln Cemetery in Lebo. The family will receive friends from 5:30 PM., until 7:00 PM., Friday evening at the Jones VanArsdale Funeral Home in Lebo. The Rosary will be recited at 7:00 PM., Friday evening. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the American Legion Post #323 Auxillary
