Edith J Reeves

May 25, 1920 — August 19, 2017

Edith June (Colglazier) Reeves, a long-time resident of Hartford, KS, passed away on Saturday, August 19th at her current home (Overland Park Place) in Overland Park, KS.  Edith was born on May 25th, 1920 in Friends, KS. She shared her birthday with her much-loved twin brother, Elijah Colglazier, who passed away in 2015. Edith graduated from Neosho Rapids High School and was united in marriage to Udell Reeves in Eureka, KS on May 6th, 1939. In their early marriage, they moved to Cathedral City, CA for a short time where Udell worked with Edith's older brother, Elmer. After about a year, they moved back to the Hartford area with their young son, Elijah Wayne. Edith worked some time at the Hartford grocery store, where she was a cashier. In the early 1950s, they moved to a rental farm south of Hartford and in the late 1950s, they purchased a 320 acre farm located on the nine mile road south of Hartford. It was on that farm that the couple became part of the Four Mile Community, Edith became a full-time homemaker and they welcomed the birth of a daughter, Debbie. While in the Four Mile Community, Edith was a member of the Ladies Aid and was very involved in the Busy Beaver 4-H Club, which included being a Crochet Leader, teaching young members the art of crocheting. Edith enjoyed needlework, crafting and cooking. Both Edith and Udell cherished their community, neighbors and family, knowing that memories were made by having a card party on a Saturday night, sharing a meal with family or spending time with your neighbors just "visiting" over a cup of coffee. Edith sold the farm and moved to Emporia, KS a few years after Udell passed away in 1991. She lived in Emporia until moving in 2013 to Overland Park to be closer to family. Edith was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church in Emporia and professed her faith in Jesus as her Savior on February 20th, 2005. Udell, her husband of 52 years, preceded her in death, along with her 11 brothers and sisters. She is survived by her son, Wayne Reeves of Overland Park and daughter, Deborah (Brian) Umbarger of Shawnee, KS, five grandchildren - Andrea (Mike) Duckworth, Brett (Kristen) Reeves, Chad (Kim) Reeves, Elise Umbarger and Emma Umbarger and six great-grandchildren - Lainie Duckworth, Keaton Duckworth, Poppy Reeves, Bodie Reeves, Chase Reeves and Kate Reeves. Edith dearly loved her family, along with her Hartford friends and neighbors.   Mom, Grandma, Aunt, friend - she was a treasure to us and will be so very much missed.
