Earlene K. Bockus

Earlene K. Bockus, 84, passed away Thursday, January 5, 2023 at Osage Nursing Center.


Earlene was born on November 19, 1938 in Topeka, Kansas to Earl A. and Lorene {Martin) Griffin. She graduated from Osage City High School with the class of 1956 and from the Clark School of Business in the spring of 1957. On September 29, 1957, she married Raymond E. Bockus at the Frist Presbyterian Church in Osage City. To this union, three children were born. Raylene (Frank) Loschke, Brian {Denise) Bockus, and Brad (Colleen) Backus.


Earlene worked for many years as an Executive Secretary for the State Federation of Labor in Topeka. In 1977 she began working at Benner Williams, and later she and Ray started Backus Real Estate where she continued working until retirement. Earlene dearly loved her family, her work, her pets, singing, reading, and playing board games --- especially Trivial Pursuit!


She was proceeded in death by her husband, Ray, her parents, and a brother, Jim Griffin. She is survived by her children, her sister, Jane (John) Guion, brother, Loren (Vinnie) Griffin, sister in-law, Judy Griffin, brother in-law, Richard {Peggy) Backus, and brother in-law, Harvey (Linda) Kimes; as well as eight grandchildren, Jay {Kayla) Loschke, Kyle (Ashlynn) Loschke, Laura Loschke, Megan (Jason) Kellner, Kaci (Shane) Shore, Ellie Bockus, Danielle (Colten) Hoggatt & Brandon Bockus; six great-grandchildren and numerous nieces & nephews.


Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 28th at the First Presbyterian Church in Osage City. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church or Interim Home Care & Hospice, sent in care of VanArsdale Funeral Chapel, 107 N. 6th St. in Osage City, Kansas 66523.
