Drusilla Esslinger

Drusilla Piatt Esslinger 79, passed away January 20, 2016 at her home near Madison. Drusilla was born June 10, 1936 in Eureka, Kansas, the daughter of Robert and Lois Benham Piatt. She was joined in marriage to George Esslinger on May 28, 1957, in Madison, Ks. They celebrated their lives together for 59 years. ��After attending several schools, including Hamilton Rural School , Drusilla graduated from Madison High School in 1954. She attended Kansas State Teachers College and graduated in 1959 with her Bachelor of Science in Education. Her first teaching position was at William Allen White in Emporia, Kansas. She then began teaching at Madison Elementary in 1960 where she continued until her retirement in 1987. Drusilla returned to college several times to obtain her Masters in Education and work for her Reading Specialist and Bachelor of Science in Home Economics Education. She had obtained 78 graduate hours beyond her Masters degree. Drusilla loved teaching whether it was teaching elementary students; 4-H students to cook or sew; her own children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; her many "adopted" family members; or her online students. She was a talented seamstress, artist, and doll maker. Drusilla will survive in the hearts of her husband, George Esslinger; brother, Robert Piatt; sister-in-law, Nancy Piatt; daughter, Lora Esslinger Meirowsky; son-in-law, Tim Meirowsky; son, Mark Esslinger; daughter-in-law, LeAnn Esslinger; son, Jason Esslinger; daughter-in-law, Trisha Esslinger; granddaughter and husband, Kati Meirowsky Kennedy and Derek Kennedy; granddaughter and husband, Samantha Meirowsky Soper and Steven Soper; grandson and wife, Jacob Meirowsky and Deborah Meirowsky; granddaughters, Morgan Esslinger and Lindsey Esslinger; grandsons, Jason Esslinger, Jr, Nathan Esslinger, Austin Esslinger; and 5 great-grandchildren. Drusilla was preceded in death by her parents, Lois and Robert Piatt, her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Katherine and Charles Esslinger, her sister, George Ann Piatt, and her daughter, Mary Katherine Esslinger Haworth. ��Services will be held at 10:00 A,M,, Monday, January 25, 2016 at the Madison United Methodist Church. Burial will follow services at Number 8 Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6:00 P.M. until 8;00 P.M. at the VanArsdale Funeral Home in Madison. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Madison United Methodist Church and sent in care of the funeral home. Condolences may be expressed at vanarsdalefs.com.��
