Douglas Elliott Hutchcraft

Douglas Elliott Hutchcraft, 79, passed away early Wednesday, January 17, 2024 at his home in Ottawa, Kansas.


He was born February 5, 1944 in Paradise, Kansas the son of Loren and Blossom Elliott Hutchcraft. He attended Plainville High School and graduated with the Class of 1962.


Doug went to work with his father after high school learning the ins and outs of remodeling and home construction. Following his father’s death, Doug started his own business, Little D. Construction in Plainville. His career in construction lasted over 35 years.


Doug was joined in marriage to Judith Mae Baasch on July 8, 1980. They moved to Osawatomie in the late 1980’s. Judith preceded him in death on April 23, 2013.


He married Patsy May Elder on November 17, 2013 in Princeton, Kansas. Patsy would precede Doug in death on March 23, 2022.


After a career change, Doug worked as a truck driver for Leadbetter Mobil Homes in Ottawa and Voight’s Trucking in Fontana, Kansas.



He will live on in the hearts and memories of his sons, Paul Hutchcraft of Canyon City, Colorado, Joel Hutchcraft of Hoisington, Kansas, David Hutchcraft of Iowa and Doug Hutchcraft of Pleasanton, Kansas; step-children, Waunita Dent of Ottawa, Ernest Leroy Funk of Rantoul. Bradley Joe McCune of Scranton, Ronald Eugene Funk of Paola; sisters, Marlene Phillips of Wichita and Delores Hocker of Midlothian, Texas; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Doug was also preceded in death by a son Michael Richard Finch and a brother, Ted Hutchcraft.


Doug’s wishes were to be cremated without services and inurned by his family at a later date.
