Dorothy Bell "Dottie Bell" Mosby

Dorothy Bell  White also affectionately known as “Dottie Bell” was born on October 10, 1923 in Luther, Oklahoma from the union of Tom White and Sylvia Gray. Dorothy had attended schools in Topeka, Kansas where she met and later married Russell Mosby on May 16,      1941. In 1943, Dorothy and her husband settled in the small town of Maple Hill. She was a loving and devoted mother to her eight children (six girls and two boys).  Dorothy was a very compassionate person who saw the good in everyone and would offer help to anyone who was in need.  Sometimes it would be food, clothing or just a meal in which Dorothy would not hesitate in finding a way to provide for that need.  Dorothy was short in stature, but had countless talents that ranged from quilting and restoring antiques to farming. She also loved to dance and listen to her Gospel music especially Mahalia Jackson who was her favorite singer. She had a passion for sewing which led her to making clothes using an old pedal Singer sewing machine without any sewing patterns as a guide, but there were somethings she sewed by hand which mainly were her quilts which she really enjoyed making and talking about.  She would make a quilt for anyone who she thought needed one or if they just simply wanted one.  Dorothy was still stitching together quilts by hand well into her 90’s.  Dorothy was self-taught and always borrowed books from the library to learn about how to do something, which later developed into owning an antique shop.  Even though she did many things at home, she also worked alongside her husband in the hay fields for a number of years.  In 2020, Dorothy became the oldest living person in Maple Hill at the age of 96.  During the quiet evening hours of Thursday, August 20, 2020, Dorothy was called to her heavenly home.  She was preceded in death her husband of 55 years, Russell LeRoy Mosby, Sr.; a daughter, Louise Dorothy Mosby (newborn); a daughter, Pamela Jean Mosby (1yr & 7months) and a son George Ernest Mosby. She will live on in the hearts and memories of her daughters, Dianna Hamilton of Aurora, Co., Fannie Johnson of Pueblo, Co., La Nora Clay of Lincoln, Neb., Kathy Brown of Maple Hill; a son, Russell Mosby Jr. of Paxico; eleven grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; three great-great’ grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and beloved friends.  Graveside services will be held at 1:00 P.M., Wednesday, September 2, 2020 at Eskridge Cemetery where she will be placed next to her loving husband of 55 years, Russell LeRoy Mosby Sr.
