Deborah Kay Black

Debbie K. Black of Hartford, KS, passed away peacefully on February 17th, 2024 in New Strawn, KS with family by her side. Debbie was born on August 31, 1956 at Bethany Hospital in Kansas City to Bruce and Willie Meier. She attended various schools throughout her childhood, as the family moved frequently. She started in Kansas City and graduated from Garnett High School. She enlisted in the National Guards but received a medical discharge before turning active duty.

Debbie worked at her parent’s gas station for a few years, followed by the Coffey County Sheriff’s Office, Quest Services then finally to COF Training Service in 2005 where she retired in 2023 after 18 years..

In 1977, Debbie married her first husband and gained a bonus daughter, Debbie. They later had two children, Cale and Bobby; the couple later divorced.. In 2006, she married the love of her life, Roy Black, and gained two bonus children, Amy and Andrew.

The couple enjoyed going to tractor pulls and riding Harley’s together. Debbie had a soft spot for animals and children and enjoyed crafting, gardening, and spending time with her COF family. Debbie will always be known for her delicious cherry pies, deviled eggs, and rum cake.

Debbie is preceded in death by her parents, Bruce and Willie Meier, as well as Fay and Lawrence Morrow.

Debbie is survived by her loving husband Roy Black; children: Cale Morrow, Bobby (Michelle) Morrow, Debbie (Mike) Oie, Amy Black and Andrew Black; grandchildren: Hayleigh, Robert Jr, Erik, Madison, Morgan, Nicholas, Xander, Alice, and Iris. She is also survived by her siblings: Kevin (Gaile) Meier, Charlie (Galyn) Meier, Stephanie Bess and Darlynn Willis; Aunt: Lorra Meier; Nieces and Nephews: Todd (Lorie) Meier, Jason (Carey) Meier, Eric Meier, Callie Cooley, Kayla (Joseph) Stewart, William (Heather) Bess, Ethan (Whitney) Larson, Zack Larson, Josh (Tiffany) Riggs; Great Nieces and Nephews: Ella Meier, Colton Cooley, Isaac Meier, Jade Stewart, Winston Stewart, Freya Bess and Paxton Riggs. She is also survived by all of her family at COF Training Services and many other family members and friends.

Graveside services will be held at the Hartford Cemetery to celebrate Debbie’s life on Saturday, March 9th, 2024 at 1:00pm

In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Coffey County Cancer Support Group and/or American Cancer Society Hope Lodge.
