Dean Gilbert Gardner

February 12, 1926 — August 23, 2017

Dean Gilbert Gardner, 91, life long resident of Osage City, passed away on Wednesday, August 23, 2017 at Vintage Park of Osage City.

Dean was born on February 12, 1926 in Osage City, the son of Jess E. and Cecelia A. (Kiwitter) Gardner.

He served in the United States Army during WWII.

Dean was joined in marriage to Margarete Lammertz on June 2, 1947, to this union three children were born, Sue, Linda and Cheryl. She died on March 22, 1978. Then later was joined in marriage to Marjorie (Wixson) Chenoweth on Oct 2, 1978. She died on June 5, 2007.

He had built, owned and operated Dean's Drive-In and Dean's Resturant in Osage City for 37 years.

Dean was a member of the Osage City United Methodist Church was very active in American Legion and Good Sam's Camping Club. He had belonged to Kiwanis and Lions Club.

He will be forever remembered by his three daughters, Sue (Bob) Nordyke of Silver Lake, Linda Colstrom of Lawrence and Cheryl (Ron) Stiffler of Quenemo; three step-daughters, Sandra Wilson of Billings, Montana, Joyce (Bill) Pitman of Osage City and Judy (Bill) Martin of Topeka; a step-son, Randy (Shannon) Chenoweth of Quenemo; a sister, Dorothy Barraclough of Topeka; three grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, thirteen step-grandchildren and twenty-one step-great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by his parents, a infant daughter, Patricia Ann Gardner; a brother, Dale Gardner; son-in-law, John Colstrom; step son-in-law, Jerry Wilson; a step-grandchild, Jason Pitman.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, September 29, 2017 at the Osage City United Methodist Church. Family will receive friends an hour before service. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Legion Post #198 in Osage City. Burial will be held at Osage City Cemetery. Condolences may be expressed at vanarsdalefs.com.
