Cory Martin Walquist

Cory Martin Walquist, 45 of Osage City passed away Tuesday, December 20, 2022 at the Kansas University Medical Center.

He was born March 18, 1977 in Topeka, Kansas the son of Chuck and Cathy Martin Walquist. Cory attended Osage City High School and graduated with the Class of 1995.

Cory was joined in marriage to Laura Marie Hovestadt on May 13, 2000 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Osage City.

Cory has been employed with Ditch & Associates for the past ten years as a truck driver in Topeka. He has been an active member of Ribs & Bibs, the family Bar-B-Q competition team. He loved fishing, hunting and spending time working in his yard, playing baseball with his son Caden. He especially enjoyed the time spent camping with his wife and son and extended family trips that they would take.

He was raised in the Presbyterian Church in Osage City and has attended St. Patrick’s Catholic Church since 2000.

Cory will live on in the hearts and memories of his loving wife, Laura and their six year old son Caden Walquist of the home; his father, Chuck Walquist of Osage City and his mother Cathy Calley of Osage City; two sisters, Crystal Walquist of Burlingame and Casey (Aaron) Karnes of Osage City; his maternal grandmother, Joan Martin of Emporia; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ray and Mary Lou Hovestadt of Burlingame; Brothers-in-law; Mark Hovestadt of Georgia, Daniel (Dawn) Hovestadt of Topeka, Raymond Hovestadt Jr. (Amber) of Burlingame and Douglas (Kelsey) Hovestadt of Burlingame; his nieces and nephews that knew him as “Uncle Cory”; his extended family and a community of dear friends. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Max Martin; and his paternal grandparents, Lawrence “Bud” and Marcella Walquist.


Services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Friday, December 30, 2022 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Osage City. Burial will follow services at Osage City Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:30 P.M until 8:00 P.M. at the VanArsdale Funeral Chapel in Osage City. A rosary will be recited Friday morning just prior to services at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Johnson Center for Basic Cancer Research at KSU and sent in care of the funeral chapel at 107 N. 6th St., Osage City, Kansas 66523.
