Betty L. Reese

Betty Reese, of Osage City, KS, passed away March 3, 2024 at St. Francis Hospital in Topeka. She was born November 8, 1935 in Osage County. Betty was the daughter of John Henry “Hank” Atchison, Sr. and Florence C. (Gunterman) Atchison. Both parents preceded Betty in death, her father in 1941 and her mother in 1989. She is also preceded by two brothers, Bill Atchison and John Atchison. Betty lived most of her life in Topeka, KS and one year in North Carolina. She was a member of the Church of Christ.

Betty had worked at the VA Hospital, 2 motels, Kelly Assisted Living, and provided childcare for 19 years. She also spent much of her time volunteering, including delivering Meals on Wheels, volunteering for Mildland Hospice and Health Center, and serving as an ombudsman and court appointed special advocate (CASA).

Betty married Richard Reese April 16, 1955 in Osage City, KS. He survives, as well as two sons, Rick Reese (Chris) of Florida, Ron Reese (Monica) of Topeka, KS; daughter, Brenda Elliott of Osage City, KS; two brothers, Robert Atchison (Shirley) of Topeka, KS and Charles Atchison (Betty) of Wakarusa, KS; 6 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren.

Graveside funeral services for Betty will be held at 10:00 AM, Friday, March 8, 2024 at Osage City Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Midland Hospice and sent c/o VanArsdale Funeral Chapel, 107 N 6th St, Osage City, KS 66523.
