Betty Jean Standiferd

November 6, 1923 — July 31, 2018

Betty Jean Standiferd 94, of Lebo, passed away Tuesday, July 31, 2018 at the Osage Nursing Center. She was born November 6, 1923 in Lebo, Kansas the daughter of William Fred and Laura Myonette Rutledge  Rosine.  Betty attended the Sunny Knoll District #18     Country School through the eighth grade. She would go on to graduate from Lebo High School with the Class of 1941. Betty was forever joined in marriage to Paul Standiferd on November 12, 1943 in Lebo. They would make their home together north of Lebo overlooking Melvern Lake. As a young woman, Betty worked at the D.P. Jones Store in Lebo and at the Ivan Thompson Grocery Store.    Betty was an active member of the Lebo United Methodist Church. She served with the United Methodist Women and the Mother Mary Circle for over fifty years. Her many Circle duties  included serving as Chairperson, and treasurer.  She took great pride in organizing and preparing funeral   dinners for countless families from the community. Betty took on a supervisory role later in life but remained active until incurring an injury from a  fall in January of this year.  Betty will live on in the hearts of her daughter, Linda Fancher and her husband Tom of Osage City; a son Jim Standiferd and his wife Caroline of Basehor;  a sister Reta Hamman of Overbrook;  grandchildren, Shari Standiferd, Michielle Cooper, Jamie Kurzen and Jason Gilliland; great-grandchildren, Tyler Sommers, Jessica Schempp, Bethanie Gilliland, Allis Kurzen Addison Kurzen and Wyatt Kurzen; great-great grandchild, Peyton Schempp;  numerous  extended family and a host of dear friends.  She was  preceded in death by her devoted husband, Paul on July 25, 1991; a son-in-law, David L. Gilliland on July 13, 1984;  brothers, Dale Rosine on July 4, 1986 and Don Rosine on September 14, 2015; a granddaughter, Kristen Lea  Gilliland on March 7, 2014.   
 Services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, August 4, 2018 at the Lebo United Methodist Church. Burial will follow services at Arvonia Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M., Friday evening at the Jones VanArsdale Funeral Home in Lebo. Betty requested that memorial contributions be made to the church or the Arvonia Historical Society and sent in care of the funeral home. Condolences may be made at vanarsdalefs.com.
