Betty E. Potenza, 71, passed away Monday, May 2, 2016 at the Osage Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Betty was born September 28, 1944 in Topeka, Kansas, the daughter of Floyd J. and Doris L. James Hoy.

She would graduate from Berryton High School with the Class of 1962. Betty continued her education at the Stormont-Vail School of Nursing and earned her LPN Degree in 1964.

Betty was joined in marriage to Ray Potenza on August 22, 1964 in Richland, Kansas. During the early years of marriage Betty worked as an LPN at Stormont-Vail until 1966 when she and Ray moved to Texas and later Wichita. They would later live briefly in Houston before spending twenty years in Andover, Kansas at which time Betty operated a day care from 1973 until moving to Lebo, Kansas in 1993. While in Lebo she worked four years as a cook for the Lebo Schools.

Her many hobbies included a love for square dancing, bowling and following the Kansas City Royals. She was a member of the Lebo Baptist Church and active in the Women’s Baptist Association.

Betty will remain in the hearts of her husband, Ray, of their home; daughters, Aileen Miller of Emporia and Theresa Schurle of Garden City, Kansas; son Brian Potenza of Limon, Colorado; sister, Linda Post of Lyndon, Kansas; ten grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and numerous extended family and dear friends.
