Arthur Ray Watts, 76, of Virgil, passed away Tuesday, August 10, 2021 at St. Luke’s Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri.
He was born July 26, 1945 in Quincy, Kansas the son of Arthur Marion and Anna Mariam Crouch Watts..
Arthur grew up in Greenwood County and at the age of 18 he began working for Pat Sherman in the oilfields. He also worked for Clarence Ward, putting up hay, and tending livestock. Arthur also worked as a carpenter. He spent twenty years in the employment of K.E. Snyder before suffering a heart attack at the young age of 49.
He married Pamela Damron on July 26, 1977. They were later divorced.
Arthur will live on in the hearts and memories of his daughter, Joni Hutchinson of Quincy; a son Faren Watts of Eureka; sisters Anna Mae Hare of Coyville, JoAnn Ashlock of Virgil, Nellie Johnson of Severy, Sharon Hellman of Eureka and Dolly Ashlock of Eureka; four grandchildren, Alexis, Tristan, Tiya and Mela. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Bert, Walter, Kenny and John; sisters, Alma Lee, Adeline and Faye.
Services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Friday, August 20, 2021 at the VanArsdale Funeral Home in Madison. Burial will follow services at Virgil Cemetery. The family will receive friends, Thursday evening from 6:00 P.M. until 7:30 P.M. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Arthur Ray Watts Memorial Fund and sent in care of the funeral home.
